Hey everyone, and welcome back to the VV Eekly Update! Hope everyone has been having a great day so far. If not, then here’s your weekly VV Eekly Update to cheer you up! Woohoo!
Today’s a short update for you all. I’m still hard at work on that promised demo. There’s a few large items to go before it’s “demo-ready” – sound effects, a title screen, finalized music – but the gameplay itself is coming together quite nicely!
Today, I want to talk about some of the more “neutral” things that are in Vyn and Verdan – statues!

Statues
I think environments are the most interesting when there are neutral elements to interact with. For Vyn and Verdan, this is produced by statues that are present throughout the game. Here are a couple examples.

Statues can be identified by their neutral gray coloring. In this example, here’s a frog (that is a frog, right?) As you can see, it starts with low health, and then, when you heal the statue to full health, it gives a big CROAK!
Statues can do many various effects, depending on which statue it is. The effect will be centered around the statue itself, and many also interact with enemies as well. In addition, most statues will soak up enemy attacks, making them effective shields for many fights. This produces a positioning decision in the gameplay – do you use the statues as shields, or do you attempt to use the statue effect to affect enemies, or do you avoid the statues altogether?

These dog statues (are they dogs?) will give a count down, and then BORK to stun and heal around them. They’re effective crowd control for the enemies, but they’ll also stun you!

Throughout the game, there are also neutral plants. These don’t do too much, but will serve as effective shields. Maybe there’s an incentive to not let them be murdered though?
That’s all for today’s VV Eekly Update. Once again, thank you for reading and engaging with these! I do very much appreciate all of your feedback and engagement with this project. If you have anything to say, please drop by the Discord to leave a comment!
